Rockin’ the Capture the Color Photo Contest

We have been tagged by the amazing Bethany and Randy of Beers and Beans to bring you our take on Capture the Color photo contest by TravelSupermarket!

While I did cringe at the thought of going through all our photos from the last couple of years, the judges and prizes are what are making us a little excited!

Here is the line up for “Judgment Day”:

And the prizes? Oh yes. Very delicious. An iPad 3 or 2,000GBP.

Have I stressed to you how budget-y our budget is going into Iceland and Europe this fall? I’ll just leave out specifics. Let’s just say we thrive on adventure.

And so here we go:

BLUE

Caye Caulker, Belize: After spending the hot afternoon at the Split all day, there is nothing like walking home with a cool ocean breeze and an even cooler beach abode. I think this is one of the cutest houses there is on the island – AND with beachfront views!

GREEN

We found ourselves visiting some friends in Bataan, Costa Rica – what, you’ve never heard of it? It is probably because it is a small town outside a small town, about 2 hours from San Jose. We spent the afternoon hiking and looking for an ideal spot to lay out in the sun with our feet in the water when we stumbled upon this beauty.

I’m already a VW fanatic. Finding a bus in a rainforest made my day.

YELLOW

Being in the Bolivian Amazon is surreal.

Like, Oh My God I can’t believe we are actually here surreal.

After a day of animal watching and pink dolphin swimming, it really doesn’t get any better than this. The golden yellow of golden hour reflecting off the trees and the little plastic boat seats made this one of my most fond memories.

WHITE

Oh lucha libre. You are by far one of the most awesome spectacles I have ever seen.

My father used to tell me that when he was a child, his grandfather would sneak him out of church early (while grandma was still in classes) for a Coca Cola and lucha libre in Juarez, Mexico.

To be able to experience a little of my past while giggling at the absurdity of it all made my heritage exploration of Mexico even that more phenomenal.

RED

Burlesque. This is the one thing I have such a guilty pleasure for and is by far the one subject that I have the most fun shooting. The sensuality of it all… verging on taboo… the strength of the women and how they own their bodies. LOVE.

This picture was from the Burlesque Road Trip to Fort Worth, Texas that I took with my best friend and burlesque performer, Jolie Ampere Goodnight.

And to pass on the photo love, I nominate the following 5 bloggers! Good luck guys!

  1. I can’t wait to participate in this. Interesting concept. You have some great photos here!

  2. This is a great post. I really like your idea for the colour yellow. AND a cousin of mine is also a burlesque dancer 🙂

  3. AWESOME!

Yellow was by far the hardest color to come up with for this contest. I apparently only shoot things that are green and blue lol. Where is your cousin a burlesque dancer?

  4. Oh I really wanna submit you green photo for blue. For some reason that blue just draws my heart out… it’s strange. My fav though is the RED… that one is amazing. Ah it’s gonna be hard to pic one for each color. Thanks for the nomination.

  5. Great pics guys – well done! My fav is the White one. Original and full of emotion.

  6. Just Wow shots!! Especially the first two captures are just sure shot winners if I was the judge!

  7. It was super hard! I had a tree frog for green but it wasn’t crisp enough for me to feel comfortable submitting it.
