It Feels Like Keystone was a Dream

KeystoneColorado-3

After a total of 17 and a half hours of driving, Shaun and I made it to Keystone, Colorado in a weird dream -like state. Did we really just convince ourselves it was okay to drive to and from Keystone (from Austin, Texas) in a 4 day weekend? I’m starting to be concerned at the ease and length we can drive now. Hell, I would consider us road warriors. We did make it from Phoenix to Austin in one loooooooong 17 hour shot.

—–tangent end—–

That weekend was not only more fun than I could have ever imagined but it changed both my life and my career. I left inspired and deeply motivated after meeting some of my favorite bloggers, along with having amazing experiences.

But enough about the working aspects of travel blogging. My dreamy weekend went something like this:

We got to wake up in the beautiful Pine Ridge Condos in Breckenridge, Colorado before heading over to Keystone during the day. There is nothing like soft sunlight peeking through the windows to gently wake you up in the morning (even with crazy altitude sickness). Having somewhere wonderful to stay on your travels definitely helps make the experience.

Then at some point we got to get into a gondola with a freaking champagne toast (Again, at altitude. Makes for a fun time.)! How perfect is that?! Never in my life did I think I would experience something so glamorous.

…and with awesome friends.

And at the top? Chocolate. In a DESSERT TENT. Even after perverted Shaun threatened to put various body parts in the chocolate fountain, I still found it delicious.

And a chocolate bird. Over the top? Yes. Awesome? HELL YEAH.

And more goodies. I was in heaven. Or hell considering I prefer salty things but they were delish nonetheless.

Or how about spending time with Diana of D Travels ‘Round at western shindig?

Somehow after a few margaritas I decided that riding the mechanical bull was a GREAT IDEA.

And Shaun decided he didn’t want to ruin his hair so he made a few “adjustments” to his cowboy hat.

Did I mention it also won us “Best Dressed” of the evening? I don’t think we have EVER won a popular vote. I’ll take it!

That Sunday around midnight, Diana and I left to start our #winosontheroad trip… (or in other words- to be continued) The first post goes up this Wednesday! Don’t miss it! You can read her more up to date posts on our epic road trip at D Travels ‘Round.

Disclosure: We did get a complimentary stay at Pine Ridge Condos, however, all opinions on the property are mine and were not influenced in any way. They really were delightful.

  1. I am loving Shaun’s hat and he definitely deserves the award. 🙂
Looking forward to your winos on the road stories. I have been following them on twitter.

  2. Who is that guy in the crumpled shirt and pulling a stupid face??

And I have just one word for you: cockolate.

  3. The only way that he would wear the hat was to do it as pictured. Seriously – the man just can’t blend in. <3 (And I'm glad because it won us a hotel stay in Puerto Rico!!!!)

Winos on the road pics/posts are coming soon. It was one of my favorite trips in the US so far!

  4. This is what happens when you make funny faces. I make sure to post them everywhere.

We’ve been telling the cocklate story quite a bit. Sadly not many people are surprised that Shaun went for it…

  5. Dave stole my comment!! As I was reading, I was thinking the comment needed one word and only one word: cockolate. (Which autocorrects to chocolate, btw). It does seem like Keystone was a lifetime ago. I miss it already. Especially as I write this from a McDonalds, a mile down the street from my house, where we STILL DON’T HAVE POWER.

  6. The hamburgers and tacos are cakes. I guess if you’re looking for real food, it would look HORRIBLE.
