My Oasis: The Chicago Hyatt Regency

This is part of the #WinosOnTheRoad trip series with Diana of D Travels ‘Round as we drive across country to start her new chapter in life.

There comes a time when every girl needs to live her princess dream. While Diana and I had not been traveling for an extended period of time, it had been over two years since Shaun or I had been in anything remotely resembling the lap of luxury. We were on super budget mode during our trip through Central and South America and didn’t spend any money on pampering or nice hotels. Hell, we were stoked just to have air conditioning in some of our hostels.

We were tired. We were cranky. We felt gross. After driving from Keystone, Colorado and through Omaha, Nebraska, we arrived at the gloriousness of the Chicago Hyatt Regency. We had been through the cornfields and rolling hills of America and drove smack dab into the middle of modern civilization.

Oh how I love you Chicago.

And while we had hoped to walk around a bit, Diana and I did what we needed most:

Had a girls evening out – we are Winos of the Road!

And recovered from our long road trip in our lovely hotel room with a PHENOMENAL VIEW.

There is nothing in the world like returning to an ice cold room, taking a hot shower, and wrapping yourself up in a comforter burrito after stuffing your face with amazing food and loving every moment of it.

Lets just say we conked out quite quickly and took even longer to get up in the morning.

It was a good night/day.

  1. I would LOVE to have one of those pretzels right now. And you hanging with me!!!

  2. I 100% completely feel you on the whole needing luxury thing! Me and boyfy recently had a night at a spa resort (gave you details on Twitter 😉 ) and that was a much needed spot of luxury for us!

That view does look amazing, though. Would love to sit in a huge fluffy bathrobe with a glass of wine whilst enjoying that view!

We need a classy cocktail-slash-wine-slash-everything night out when we finally run into each other – and a place like this to crash afterwards!

  3. It really hits the spot!

I’m super down for having a posh night with you. Let’s just hope I have the money when the time comes!

  4. Luxury is something I cannot live without—it doesn’t have to be the penthouse, but even something really small, like a nice vial of perfume, or a hot foot soak at the end of the day, lifts my spirits. SO glad for you gals that you got to do this, and to recharge your batteries. One thing that helps me: taking a nice travel kit like Molton Brown when you travel –sometimes sniffing something like Paradisiac Pink Pepperod can really lift your spirits. And yes, wine is ALWAYS the answer. Beautiful photos, Erica!

  5. Thank you for commenting Charu! I like to see your face around here. <3

I've just started treating myself to a bit of luxury here and there - which is much appreciated after backpacking through Latin America. I'm not sure I can travel the same way again.

  6. Greetings! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you I
truly enjoy reading through your articles.
Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same subjects?
    Thank you so much!
