Non-Stop Partying in Bocas del Toro, Panama

Bocas Del Toro

Bocas Del ToroWhen we stepped foot onto Utila-like Bocas del Toro, Panama, I think I must have lost 8 years or so of my life on the water taxi. I was 21 again and for some reason wanting to re-live those years.

Or maybe it was because we had spent a month and a half in the land of $2.50 beers (Costa Rica) and I felt compelled to make up for lost time.

Warning: If you go to this destination, you WILL end up partying. I mean, there really isn’t much more to do (during the night). We ended up dragging our friends Jungle James and Safari Kate with us into our demise (you may have seen then in other posts – oh Backpacker Trail!).

We started light with a $25 water taxi tour that took us into the heart of this tropical paradise.

Seeing dolphins playing in Dolphin Bay,

Snorkeling in Coral Cay, putting our feet up and relaxing while waiting for the group at a restaurant,

And experiencing one of the last un-littered tropical islands left in the world at the Zapatilla Cay.

Panama

Or even making a small trip to Starfish Cove…

Oh did I mention we were there during Halloween… AND our hostel had $.50 Happy Hour?

Lets just say it lead to this madness…

While I loved Bocas, I’m not sure I could go back for fear of my liver dying. That and I spent the next 3 days in Panama City dying of dehydration…

  1. This is the first time I’ve read your blog (Will’s guest post tipped me off to you guys) and I kind of hate you a little bit :-p

It’s rainy and miserable here in Sydney and I’m cooped up in an office for the foreseeable future just so I can afford trips like these. Have an extra beer (or five) for me!

  2. @Jaime: It cost $.50 for all of us to be done up. I wish I would have bought more. It rained that night which makes the costumes short lived. πŸ˜›

  3. @Aussie: AHOY THERE! Welcome aboard! One of our really awesome travel friends lives in Sydney and I’m hoping to go visit her one day. Looks like I may have t make it an expensive beer date multiple times! πŸ˜‰

Well, at least you are on the right track – working with a purpose? It took us quite a few years to finally afford this trip so I’m rooting fo ya! πŸ˜› (And I always have beer for Aussie friends – it is the least I can do with how expensive yours is at home.)

  4. That looks like so much fun! Not only the booze is cheap also nature is amazing!!! Gotta go there πŸ™‚

and find a chinese afterwards who wants to trade his liver for my ipad πŸ™‚

  5. @Sebastian: It is AWESOME. Like, a backpacker’s dream with how much fun this place is. And for that reason we had to leave after 3-4 days. πŸ˜›

  6. I love that you posted these drunken Halloween photos. I do not know if I would be brave enough to do that πŸ™‚

I can definitely agree with you that there isn’t much to do in Bocas besides drinking and laying on beaches.

  7. Haha!! I love this!! There are times when I pretend I am 21 again and then I feel like my liver is going to fall out of my body. Such fun during it though!

  8. @Stephanie: The night was so much fun I couldn’t help but post the pictures. The absurdity of trying to be toilet paper mummies during rainy season made it even better.

  9. @Nomadic Samuel: I’ve been known to make a million different faces. That is what I get for being the daughter to an actress mother. πŸ˜›

  10. This… could be the best post ever. These photos are hilarious! And I love Shaun in the hammock!! Plus, geez, if you were spending too much on beer, why the heck didn’t you tell me?! I could have sent you to the locals places!!

  11. @Abby: Thank you! We were spending quite a bit on beer in Costa Rica – always less than $2 but so much more expensive in comparison to other places in Central America!
