Our 7th Wedding Anniversary Abroad

Spending our big day at a baseball game. Go Guerreros!

We are 35 days into our trip and celebrating one of our first big things abroad – our 7th wedding anniversary.

Shaun and I at senior prom!

Sure, while people say this is the copper/wool year, I would rather bypass the kitschy gifts and go straight to the fact that we are currently sharing our dream of traveling the world together and that means more to me than any gift ever would.

Sure, we spent our big day with Jaime from Breakaway Backpacker at an awesome Oaxaca Guerreros baseball game, but we had such an amazing time together. We were taking pictures and for the first time in a very long time, I realized that we are happy.

Shaun and I have been together for over 12 years and married for 7. We have been through our own ups and downs (marriage is hard!) but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The only way we would have ended up the people we are today was to have experienced everything we’ve been through together.

Yes, I realize this is a sappy ass post but I am so incredibly blessed to be with someone so curious and excited to see the world as I am.

The current us!

And so Oaxaca, we are happy to be here right now. We are happy to experience everything you have to offer and here is to many more anniversaries (abroad?)!

7th wedding anniversary down, can I hear more? How about you, 8th?

The 3 Musketeers! (Breakaway Backpacker’s Jaime is with us!)
Man with big binoculars. We had to take a pic.
for the first time in years I geniunely feel happy.

And greeeeat that you met Jaime! I will probably meet him in Italy in the next months, excited 🙂

  6. @Annie: The funny thing is that I despise baseball on TV but going to games is one of our favorite things to do. 🙂

  7. @Megan: Shaun always cringes when I post that picture. I haven’t seen his chin in ages and I think he gets weirded out looking at it. 😛

  8. Love the prom pic. Congratulations sweetheart (and you too Erica)

    :Love Dad

  9. Oh wow – congrats you two!!! =) Looks like a very fun way to spend the day, with great company. Wishing you many more wonderful, happy years together

  10. Congrats! Seven years of marriage is a great thing, but personally I want to congratulate you on being HAPPY. I’m finally starting to feel what that’s like again as my wife and I are about to set off on our own trip.

  11. congratulations, and I have to say that the picture of the guy with binoculars has to be one of the funniest I have seen on a blog in a long time. Somewhere there is a joke about the the binoculars and the umpires, but I can’t place it right now, lol. good stuff!

  12. Happy Anniversary!! You’re right, it doesn’t matter what item or material the year of the anniversary is supposed to be celebrated with. If you’re both happy and enjoying the best of life, you don’t have to wait to get excited on one day – you’re celebrating every day together 🙂

  13. Felicitaciones por su séptimo aniversario de boda! Even though y’all are younger than me, I’ve only been married 5 years.

Y’all look so cute in your prom pic. I think I burned mine. 🙂

  14. OMG! you guys are adorable Now, but back then!!! how freaking cute was That! ??? haha. you both acquired tattoos and piercings at the same rate?? hahah.. that’s Awesome!!

  15. Congrats you two! HAPPINESS is the best gift in the world. I wish you many, many more years of joy!

  16. Just wanted to say congratulations! I hope you will have many more anniversaries to celebrate abroad 🙂

  17. @Robert: Thank you Robert. I didn’t realize I was stuck in the “unhappiness” of repetitiveness and general living. While there have been times during our travel where I get pissy, I’ve been so happy.

  18. @Scott: We were cracking up SO BADLY. I’ve never seen such a crazy pair of binoculars before and he wasn’t even in the nosebleed section… not to mention it was MINOR league.

  19. @Scott: Yeah – we were babies back then! I also prefer doing silly things as well. While we do have the occasional romantic night out, I can say without a doubt that we have more laughs during celebrations like these. 🙂

  20. @Patricia: Right now I think I’m experiencing one of the happiest moments of my life and it feels so good.

  21. @Jennifer: Gracias! We got married awfully young so the number looks really large. :X I think all prom pics are awesome! What a way to capture the way you were!

  22. Oh I totally missed the title of the photo. I thought it looked like a prom. Nonetheless, super cute!! 🙂

  23. Congratulations to your anniversary!! You two look so cute in your prom picture – you’ve been together for a REALLY long time!!

Jealous that you went to a baseball game in Oaxaca! We stayed there for two weeks & the bus from our house to the city center went by the stadium every single time…we wanted to go to a baseball game so bad… but somehow we ran out of time. Sigh.

  24. Congratulations!! My wife and I celebrated 10 years of marriage in April and we were thinking “Where did the time go?” It’s so awesome that you have taken the adventure to a whole new level. You guys sure look happy! Cheers!

  25. @Matt: Thank you! We are so happy right now – it really puts things into a different perspective with life.

  26. This made me so happy to read 🙂 Bryan and I have been married two months as of today–I hope we are just as happy as you guys are seven years down the road. I’m so glad that you are both living your dream and loving it!!!

  27. I’m way behind on blog reading, but trying to catch up. Belated congrats on your 7th anniversary! And the prom picture is so cute!

  28. I’m not really sure! 2013 will be 9 – I think we’re keeping it low key because we want the big 1-0 to be the big one. And NAH – we cleaned up all nice for the prom picture. 😀
