Photo Friday: HDR – The Basilica in Quito, Ecuador

If you have been keeping up with us, you can understand my obsession with churches and cathedrals abroad. I think it is because there is a distinct lack of them in the United States. It would definitely make the cities a bit more interesting if you had dramatic architecture like this. The basilica in Quito blew my mind. It is GORGEOUS.

If you check out the post on Quito, you can see a close up of the gargoyles on the church – or otherwise known as various animals from the Galapagos. Clearly placed after the church was built, I think it is a clever way to incorporate the eco-friendly culture of Ecuador.

As a Catholic let me just say,

There’s nothing like a Central American Church to make you appreciate the influence the church has wielded over the years.

@Greg: SERIOUSLY (even if it is South) lol. The cathedrals and basilicas and so breathtaking. I could stare at them forever.

Well, the majority of my experience was in Mexico but come to think of it, Columbia had some pretty impressive stuff too.

Great shot. The clouds are particularly effective in HDR :)

The dark clouds really add to the dramatic look of the church. Love the photos!
