Road Trip: Burning Man Supply List

Burning Man Supply List
Picture unrelated: Needed goofy picture to calm my nerves. Did it work for you?

It is crazy when you realize that a trip you have been planning for is right around the corner. I have wanted to participate in Burning Man since the late 90s and the fact that my time has come has me frothing at the mouth.

It is crunch time (T-Minus 6 days) and I’m starting to feel the effects – Insomnia, Pre-Travel Jitters, the Worries, etc. After consulting my calendar I have a whirlwind next few days and I am determined to get everything accomplished before we head out. Today I saw the sun rise for the first time since I left my job a month ago (and yes, it does feel glorious to wake up when my body tells me to and not with an alarm clock) to take some portraits for my photography job that I love dearly. There are so many projects that need to be wrapped up and the fact that I’m cutting a rent check two weeks early makes me giggle.

Shaun and I are about to hit the road for three glorious weeks and my soul is ecstatic. Not only do I get to see Shaun for more than an hour or two a day, but he is more than happy to make pit stops so I can take pictures.

So this week I have:

  • To get some forms notarized
  • A chauffeur permit test to take
  • Rollerderby referee practices (x2)
  • To get the car inspected
  • A meeting in regards to an art show I’m helping put together
  • A date with a good friend to discuss a couture photography shoot we’re putting together
  • A shopping day to find a cocktail dress for Vegas (and a shirt to cover my tattoos for a wedding shoot)
  • A wedding to shoot
  • A photoshoot with painted nude models
  • A Rollerderby play-off game (Hellcats vs. Holy Rollers!)

And somewhere in between I have to find time to pack for Burning Man and make sure we have everything ready for our massive road trip.

This is where you come in. I’m posting my road trip list below. If I’m missing anything or you have any suggestions, it would be very much appreciated. I am terribly overwhelmed with my next week and would love some travel community love to assist me in my packing. Please note I didn’t include things like shirts, socks, underwear, etc.

  1. Seems like you have everything and a bit more there! 😉 Looking forward to follow you and get some insiders perspective of the Burning Man festival!!

  2. Neat list! Haha. Reminds me of my much anticipated liveaboard dive trip to Tubbataha earlier this year where I could hardly sleep. I made a list too because I was going to live in a boat for 6 days, so I guess it’s the same for you going to a desert. 🙂

I first read about Burning man from a book called Around the World in 80 dates and have wished I could one day take part in it! Looking forward to your stories and photos.

  3. @Sofia: I *hope* we have everything lol. We’re going to be grocery shopping in Vegas before heading out so we won’t have to fight over stuff with other Burners in Reno.

  4. @Lilliane: I get really worked up with trips. I feel like a kid the night before Christmas or driving into the parking lot of Disneyland… Its terrible!

  5. Wow looks like yall are ready to roll!!! It also looks like yall are going to have a blast. Cant wait to see pics.

  6. You are ready to go! Make sure you take plenty of shots to share with us…truth is I don’t really know what burning man is all about and will wait for your posts to find out.

    Enjoy the jitters!

    Federico

  7. Really cool Shaun and Erica… and really nice list. I didn’t find out about Burning Man until recently this year, but now I’m hooked with wanting to do it.
I wish I could go to Burning Man but I will be in Peru at the time. I hope I can do it in the following years.

Btw… Hilarious pic! Love it! 🙂

  8. @Norbert: I’ve been dreaming about Burning Man for so long that I get butterflies just thinking about it. Peru sounds wonderful! I’m hoping to be there sometime next year. 😀

  9. @Cherie: Applied at the website! We didn’t have a camp (we were just going to go by ourselves) but I would love to experience it!

  10. Erica that sounds perfect… We can trade, you go to Peru, I go to Burning Man next year… lol 🙂
