Technology and Changing Family Dynamics – Welcome to the world Baby C!

family dynamics
Checking in and getting ready for being induced.

Last night I cried. I cried tears of happiness as the first baby of the family was born. I cried because I couldn’t be there physically to hold her in my arms. There is one thing that I am ever so grateful for – today’s technology. We are connected at a level that has never been seen before in history. Family dynamics are changing.

Heart monitor for Chloe.

Not only was I there in the hospital when she checked in but I was able to hear the heart monitor and grace the family’s presence on Skype when the baby was delivered and being held by loving grandparents.

The hospital had wifi. I am ever so grateful. I didn’t miss out on this very important event in my little sister’s life.

Welcome to the world Baby C! I love you ever so much and I can’t wait to meet you for real when we get home!

Nervous dad to be!

  1. Welcome to the world, little Chloe! 🙂 How special that could be a part of the experience of your niece being born. The advances in technology today so that we are all connected are just incredible.

  2. @Patricia: I feel so blessed that they gave me the opportunity! They were so happy to see me too. <3 Nurse gave them a funny look…

  3. Congrats on having your first niece Erica! 🙂

It really sucks that when I gave birth to my first son in 2007, technology wasn’t as accessible as it is now. Anyway, I think that your little sister is very lucky to have someone as sweet as you. What about you? Any plans to make one of your own soon? 🙂

  4. @Ada: Thank you! No plan at the moment. We’re holding off until we figure out a way to have a kid, afford medical expenses, and are done traveling on the scale we are. Which, may be another few years. 😛

  5. Congratulations, congratulations, and congratulations! Being an aunt is the best thing ever. And, how, awesome that you got to experience it with your sister even though it was virtually.

  6. @Akila: Thank you so much! I’ve already began to watch her grow through the computer screen and it has been such a blessing. I’m looking forward to being crazy aunt Erica for sure!

  7. Aww! Thank you for reading. This was so special to me. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I finally got to meet this special little lady and she is just so amazingly fantastic.
