Tramspotting: Teleferico in Salta, Argentina

Salta Teleferico-10

While we did manage to spend most of our time on the outskirts of Salta, one of our must dos was to visit the Teleferico in Salta, Argentina. We are no stranger to trams on this Latin American adventure. I’m a firm believer that you can see a city in a new light when you’re high above with only your thoughts and the wind blowing through your hair. There is no shortage of things to do while visiting Salta.

For 30 pesos (~$6-7) you get a round trip ticket and while this is a bit pricey for the time on the actual tram, the view is phenomenal! Take your time at the overpriced cafe at the top or escape through the small paths of waterfalls and greenery. If you feel like paying the money for a workout, there are ellipticals and bikes up at the top – free to use – and you can work up a sweat with an amazing view (stop looking at the ladies in yoga pants). This is probably one of the most spectacular city views I’ve seen in quite some time. Add in the sun rays poking through the clouds and you have a heavenly view.

It is possible to hike up to the top with the many trails leading up if you’re looking for a hike. Bring lots of water (with a water fountain at the top), sunscreen, and a great attitude. The view from the top is completely worth it!

  1. Gorgeous! I might be in the wrong country after seeing these pictures…. 🙂

  2. @Leslie: I sadly didn’t notice. I think it is really cool when it is such part of the culture. Reminds me of Mexico.
