Travel Photography – Images of the Salisbury Cathedral, England

Merry Christmas (Eve)! Today’s religious celebrations will be brought to you by the Salisbury Cathedral in Salisbury, England. Check out these gorgeous images of the Salisbury Cathedral.

Shaun and I got to see this beautiful cathedral during the Stonehenge tour we took while in London. This cathedral can boast the country’s tallest spire, the world’s oldest clock, and one of four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta. This is a place that is not to be missed by history and architecture geeks alike!

Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.

The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft). Visitors can take the “Tower Tour” where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)). The cathedral contains the world’s oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta (all four original copies are in England).[1] Although commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, the official name is the Cathedral of Saint Mary. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration in 1258. – Wikipedia

  1. @Jason: Thank you! The place was amazing and huge. So many things to take pics of. There is something magical about architecture in B&W. Merry Christmas to you as well Jason! ♥

  2. @Ryan: I love big pictures! While I know it takes up more than a single screen, I LOVE details in photography. Sometimes it can make the picture.

  3. Great Photo – any picture or post from England makes me miss home a little bit! Did you like Stone Henge – we thought it was a bit like tourist central when we paid a visit!

  4. @Kirsty: Loved Stone Henge but it was so damn cold in February (the wind went right through our jackets) that I couldn’t enjoy it much. So many people there – I can only imagine what it is like in the summer!
