Travel Photography – San Francisco BART

I really did leave part of my heart in San Francisco. I had heard that it was quite a bit like Austin, and the city did not disappoint. From tap dancing performers on the streets to the sights and smells of a busy city, I could not help but fall in love with such a place – even if I was cowering in the corner from shivering in my hoodie in the middle of summer.

There is something different – something that is alive in the air. The electric buzz that follows you around as you discover the city is contagious. It only takes a quick tap dance from a street performer, a wink from a guy on the bus, or a perfect breeze that goes through your hair. It is magic! (Although, I’m sure that the plethora of Japanese food helps its case immensely as I shove noodles down my pie hole.)

From the San Francisco BART station looking up onto 5th and Market. I’m loving the older architecture downtown.

San Francisco BART

Nothing says it better than old blue eyes, Frank Sinatra:

The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay,
The glory that was Rome is just another day,
I’ve been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan,
I’m going home to my city by the bay.

[Chorus:]
I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care.
My love waits there in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea,
When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me.

  1. @Connie: I’m so glad I can provide a bit of home for you! My aunt has an office on that corner and I became enamoured with it while we were waiting for her to get off of work.

  2. @Joseph: I’ve never fallen so fast for a city in my life! I want to move there so badly. My aunt lives in Twin Peaks and talks about the sunrise she sees from the balcony every morning with her morning coffee. I’m jealous.

  3. @Evan: It is SUCH a COOL city. I wish we had more time. I think I may have gained 10lbs while there trying to catch up on all the amazing cuisine.

  4. Beautiful! We lived just a handful of blocks from here for about a year (in the heart of the lovely Tenderloin) and immediately knew we had found home. San Francisco is the one city we can’t wait to “settle down” in. 🙂

  5. @Christy: We were staying in Walnut Creek and commuting in and I still wish we had more time! I love the weather and we had some of the best sushi since leaving Japan.

  6. As I said on Facebook, I’m a big fan of this shot! When I lived in SF, I loved the feeling of coming up from the still underground into the rush of Union Square and Market Street. This view was the start of many good nights.

  7. Great shot Erica – so Randy saw this and said “Erica just made me really miss San Fran. I want to move back.” He had a pretty sad look on his face too… You made him quite nostalgic. 🙂

  8. @Randy: I have no clue why the spam queue keeps catching you guys! My aunt works across the street from this stop so I was given a grand tour. San Fran is one of the possible places we may move to when we come back from our trip. 🙂 Glad I could bring back some nostalgia.

  9. @Bethany: I apologize that I left you with a puppy dog faced man in your quarters. 😛 I should have taken more pictures while we were there but we were too busy stuffing our faces with sushi, udon, and clam chowder.

  10. By the way if you look to the right from where you’re standing that’s where I worked. Right across the street from Forever 21
