Introducing “Over Yonder” video series with Shaun and Erica

Once upon a time I graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in film. Yes, I have received quite a bit of flack from my choice in my educational endeavors and until now, they have been on the backburner for the past 4 years.

I’ve decided to be a little more ambitious these days.

I am happy to announce that in addition to the photographs and posts that are currently on Over Yonderlust, we will be adding our travel video series, Over Yonder.

Introducing the teaser to our newest video series:

There will be two different kinds of videos we will be creating.

Adventures with Shaun and Erica
These videos will follow us as we partake in cultural affairs or adventurous escapades. Think Shaun learning how to salsa dance and me, in my accident prone ways, attempting to do athletic things. Hilarity will ensue.

Momentos
I recently upgraded my camera not only because I was limited in my abilities with low light photography, but to give me the opportunity to create more cinematic videos using the lenses I currently have. These videos will mainly be details that will try to capture the essence of the locations we are in. While these will definitely be on a more serious note, I can assure you they will be worth the watch.

I sincerely hope you guys will be there to share our experiences on video and we will see you on the flip side!

  1. I think it’ll be awesome. I’m just a geek with a gadget. I half ass my way through everything and learn as I go, but you actually know what you’re doing! 😀 We’ll put you guys on our YouTube friends.. box.. thing, whatever the Hell it’s called.

  2. Looking forward to your videos. The most I can do is upload to You tube and that it is. I know I am getting old because technology is passing me by!!!

  3. Nice teaser there Erica. Can’t wait to see what you produce. As you know, I’m all about the photo’s but I do like video as well. It’s just something I’ve never played around much with.

  4. @Evan: I *somewhat* know what I’m doing. I’ve been out of practice for a while and Final Cut Pro nearly killed me the other night. You guys keep up the good work. I love your vids!

  5. @Jill: iMovie is a fantastic platform! I’m using final cut pro right now but I like tweaking like crazy (I specialized in editing).

  6. @Natalie: I barely learned how to upload to YouTube. It wasn’t the platform it is today when I was going to school lol. Being involved in the tech industry (from photography to video games) definitely helps keep me in the loop.

  7. @Jason: I’ve fallen head over heels for photography which is why I wanted to do the video series as a dual project. I’m strapping on my 50mm lens for the detail videos and going to town with textures.

  8. @Scott: Thanks Scott! It definitely takes a bit of practice but once you get the timing down it is all downhill from there!

  9. @Val: The editing part is not so hard for me – it is creating the content that kills me. I’m definitely going to be pushing myself.

  10. @Kim: That will definitely be… interesting. He suffers from the inability to move his hips at all – also know as the “white boy hop”.

  11. Well the teaser is all ready about 500x better than anything we could make so I’m excited to see the real thing!

  12. So exciting! And what a cool way for you to use your degree. 🙂

Not to be too demanding or anything, but you should totally put together a tutorial for all the noobs out there on how to make videos like this (some easy filming techniques, editing, etc.).

Okay, maybe I just want to pick your brain. 😛

  13. I’m really looking forward to the videos!! I’ve seen and heard you briefly on a video months ago but look forward to seeing you two more regularly.

I don’t know anything about film, but it’s been fun to do our little YouTube votes during our current road trip…makes me want to learn more 🙂

  14. Looks awesome, I’m excited to follow your travels and vids!

What camera did you decide on? We’re about to embark on a similar journey and produce a web video series as well, and making equipment choices was overwhelming. We decided on two Canons…the T2i and S95.

Good luck to you! We’ll be following ya 😉

  15. @Poi: I cheated with the teaser. Honest. I bought a template and plugged in the words. Looks more professional!

  16. @Christy: When I can make a non-shaky video that is not on my Flip and gets good feedback, I’ll consider doing a tutorial. 😛 As for editing, many people use iMovie for its simplicity. It does the job. I use Final Cut Pro which I’m super out of practice and is currently killing me because I can’t find all the buttons I need. 😛

  17. @Heather: Those videos are so terrible (but have their own quality about them). These should be a bit different since Shaun is gung ho about waiting for me to get shots. People in pedicabs and bar crawling aren’t too keen on it.

You guys have a steady hand with your vids. Super important!

  18. @Julie: I had a Nikon D80 and I recently upgraded to a Nikon D300S (I already had invested in all the lenses and it is a super awesome camera). I wish I could spend more money on gear but I have to work with what we have. 🙂

  19. I FREAKIN LOVE IT!!!!!! and i have to give you major props for being willing to take this on while you’re traveling. you know i know the work involved and that’s some good stuff 🙂 can’t wait to watch them ALL!!!

  20. I can’t wait to see the videos coming. The intro is so awesome and love that motion graphic side of it and great music pick.

  21. Sarah: I am SO EXCITED. I have had so many ideas in my head I’ve had issues sleeping! A million things I want to do.
