I’m going to be changing things up a bit this week with a Hometown Tourism post – photo essay style. Every year Austin throws a street art festival known as the Balcones Burner Bash in which various graffiti artists gather at the recycling plant. It not only celebrates the artists, but promotes an environmental preservation theme. They also recycle old train cars to give them more positive green messages.
Seeing people become motivated to bring awareness to recycling and conservation always gets my attention. Especially when you combine two of my favorite pastimes – art and trying to create a green environment. With a collection of canned food and a couple of dollars, you get a once in a lifetime look at an art museum in the making. I could sit and watch these guys create art for hours.
It is always nice to see the graffiti community in Austin. I definitely welcome the Balcones Burner Bash to Austin!
Oh I love the picture. I love the pink!!!
What a great idea, I love grafitti art, and that picture looks so pretty! 🙂
Nice but make sure everyone click the photo the other pictures are great as well!
beautiful pics and seems like an awesome event! only concern is the paint! hope they’re using low to zero VOC paints if they’re doing this to promote an environmental preservation theme. seeing the masks makes me think no 🙁
Great pic, I love street art!
Very cool, I like the hometown approach. Afterall your hometown is someone else’s tourist destination.
These are super amazing collections. As a designer, we always love to see street arts and typography type of stuff. Love ya for posting this up.
@Jaime: If you click on the picture you can see more pretty pictures!
@Lauren: They raise quite a bit of money doing this and it was super awesome.
@Kirk: Indeed! Thanks for letting people know!
@Lorna: You know, I never had thought about that until now.
@Angela: Plan on seeing more! I love it!
@Ayngelina: Thank you! I could talk about Austin all day.
@Sarah: Thank you! I am terrible when it comes to graphic design of any type but I can totally appreciate it.
How have I lived in Austin for 8 years and have never known about this?? Super cool! Austin has such awesome random street art around town. I think I just saw a new one on SoCo pop up.
Seems like a cool festival, great photos! I like the “environmental preservation” theme, I wonder what sort of of spray paint they were using?
@Emily: I had a friend mention it to me actually. For a while I was really looking into getting into graffiti art but my photography consumed my life. 🙂
@Sofia: Lorna was mentioning her concerns in a comment earlier. Honestly, I have no clue and I feel like I should have asked!
