There was something fantastic, almost magical about the Ancient Roman Baths in Bath, England. The fact that I was walking through history was exciting. It is crazy to think that the Romans had such a huge hold on Europe during their empire. When traveling through, you can always see remnants – whether it be in Spain or England.
Sometimes I forget how incredibly young the United States is.
Now if only we could have baths like these in the USA. Sure beats a hot tub any day!
The Roman Baths complex is a site of historical interest in the English city of Bath. The house is a well-preserved Roman site for public bathing.
The Roman Baths themselves are below the modern street level. There are four main features: the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, the Roman Bath House and the Museum holding finds from Roman Bath. The buildings above street level date from the 19th century.
The Baths are a major tourist attraction and, together with the Grand Pump Room, receive more than one million visitors a year,[1] with 1,037,518 people during 2009.[2] It was featured on the 2005 TV program Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of the West Country. Visitors can see the Baths and Museum but cannot enter the water. An audio guide is available in several languages. – Wikipedia

Wow! Looks like you all had a great trip! I am hoping to go back to Italy soon!
Looks beautiful! I am the same way – love walking through old ruins just imagining that I am walking in the same footsteps of so many people from another time. It never gets old!
I’ve heard so much about Bath but I never made it south when I was in Edinburgh. Beautiful photos. And you’re right, I’ve only felt the US was old after traveling around New Zealand – the ‘youngest country on earth!’
It was awesome. We have some friends in London that suggested the trip. 🙂
Its so amazing. Its like you can feel how old it is.
@Matt: I really didn’t know what to expect of Bath but I’m really glad I did. If I wasn’t with a tour group I would have explored the baths much more thoroughly.
There definitely is something magical about Bath, England. I was there last October and it just absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for bringing back some good memories for me!
@Connie: You are VERY welcome! ♥
My favourite city in England – so much history and so much beautiful architecture, well captured in your photo. For more detail, I wrote an article (http://www.travel-wonders.com/2008/11/soaking-up-culture-bath-england.html) some time ago on Bath.
@Mark: I’m glad I wasn’t the only one enamored! Checking out your link now. 🙂
