Barcelona is Full of Art: Street Style

IMG_1386.jpg
“I prefer a minute with you than an eternity without you.”

It is on every corner, every street, and every door.

….and it is beautiful.

Barcelona graffiti is some of the most amazing I have ever seen.

There is something about the energy that floats in the air. Maybe it is the acceptance of art. Poets, musicians, painters, dancers – these are the people that make up Barcelona. You can tell by the way that the city is designed. First by Gaudi – paving his own way in his modernista architectural style. Now, it is by the fleeting art known as street art – or graffiti.

BarcelonaGraffiti-1.jpgAt first I thought that nothing could beat the street art in Reykjavik, Iceland. I mean, it was some of the most colorful and cartoony art pieces I had seen – a unique art style to Iceland – and it made me smile. But Barcelona? Oh baby do these pieces just fit the mood and style that this city represents. Moody with a specific art style.

What may be here today may be gone tomorrow.

And I think that is what makes it so special. What you may see may only be for your eyes.

It is the graffiti pieces like these that made me want to spend a substantial time in Barcelona. Like our time in Medellin, it was surrounded by amazing people and amazing art.

I normally save these kinds of posts for Photo Fridays but the level and depth of these pieces took my breath away and I felt compared to share.

  1. Spain is one of my favourite places to see street art – particularly Barcelona! I’m a huge fan of all things graffiti, especially (like you mentioned) the idea that it is fleeting and what we see one day may not be what someone else sees the next day. Great photos – love how colourful and diverse they are!

  2. This is amazing!! …And I don’t only mean the pictures but also the fact that I was SURE to recognize something in at least one of your pictures because when I went to Barcelona in april, I could never take more than three steps before another photo of awesome street art had to be taken. After a zillion shots you think you should have covered some ground, but it turns out: Nope. Apparently I missed out. Or have your words come true for all of these little art works: “And I think that is what makes it so special. What you may see may only be for your eyes.”? Whatever it is: Barcelona, I’ll be back! Love your post!

  3. Ugggg so, so, so gorgeous. I really wish I had had more time to explore Barcelona and see the street art. Any particular places or districts you recommend to spot it??

  4. Great photos – really love the shop with the graffiti on the door. Looks like just the type of place I’d want to check out =)

I love explore the lane ways of Melbourne to discover street art, but haven’t seen much outside of Oz so will have to add Barcelona to the list!

  5. I’ve seen amazing photos of the street art in Spain, yours are stunning! The best street art I’ve seen was in Reykjavik, I remember your guys loved that too.

  7. Thank you! It blew my mind how many colors they use for their graffiti in Barcelona. I just have never seen anything quite like it!

  8. Oh believe me. I wish WE had more time as well. It was too short. TOO SHORT!

Not sure about what districts we were in – just started walking everywhere.

  9. a) I always feel bad because I’m always holding everyone up. It would be awesome to have someone else with my obsession.

    b) YES.

    c) I didn’t get to see enough of Berlin!

  10. HA! I think it is a sweet gesture no matter what. Can you imagine what the girl thought when she found out it was for her?
