The guys over at LowCostHolidays.com have put together an awesome contest – enter the Blogger Relay 2012!
What we’re doing ‘round these parts are sharing our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd favorite travel memories before passing on this glorious green baton on to another blogger to do the same (and so on and so on). The team with the longest chain wins the contest (and a mini prize… I like PRIZES!!!!) along with bragging rights for being fantabulous. Oh yes. FANTAAAAAAAABULOUS.
The Travel Judge panel includes Traveldudes, Global Grasshopper and The Travel Chica. They swill be choosing the best blog from all entries and the prizes include an iPad2, Digital SLR and Hi-Tec Walking Boots! That is a serious blogger kit, folks.
I’ll take them all thanks.
And the team captains for this exciting and competitive relay:
- Kate from Tales of a Brit Abroad
- Christina from Jandal Road
- Karin from K and K Adventures
- Shaun and ME from Over Yonderlust
- Neil from Backpacks and Bunkbeds
We are officially the team captains for TEAM GREEN!
So here we go:
1st: Shaun being loved on by an “excited” llama.
You know our meme/mascot Bossy the Llama? What we didn’t tell you is how much Bossy loved Shaun.
When we finally reached the pinnacle point of our trip – Machu Picchu – we got to get that one golden snap that will stay with you forever. Not only did we reach the #1 item on our bucket list but HOLY CRAP, there are actually LLAMAS at Machu Picchu! It wasn’t all a tourist ploy to get you there (granted, I’m sure they place them there for tourist delights but we will bypass that whole conversation).
So as we got ready to take the pictures, Bossy got a little frisky with Shaun and started doling out some intense “necking”. Luckily it didn’t get much worse than that because I’m really not sure what we would have done with a llama mounting Shaun.
2nd: Scuba diving with dolphins and naked people.
You read that correctly.
As Shaun and I were completing our Peak Performance Buoyancy class for our Advanced Scuba Certification in Utila, Honduras, they descended upon us. 3 men, 2 women, in fuzzy, unshaven glory, descending in a slow, graceful manner.
Bubbles, butt slaps, giggles and flooded masks from laughing ensued. It derailed our class. One would say we could BARE-ly contain ourselves. It STRIPPED us of our concentration. Har har.
THAT scuba memory will last us a life time.
3rd: Being bitten by a pink dolphin in the Bolivian Amazon.
I think I may be part of a very small club of people in the world that have been bitten by these ugly little suckers.
While we were on our Bolivian Amazon river tour, we had the opportunity to swim with the pink river dolphins that call this area home (especially during rainy season). Our boat driver parked the boat and we all jumped in to play with a pod of 3-4 pink dolphins. After a while of playing fetch (they chased a plastic bottle and brought it back) and playing chicken with us as they swam by us, they had enough of it. I felt one swimming near me and started feeling around with my feet to touch it. My foot felt a smooth, almost rubbery dolphin back and I squealed with glee. About 2 seconds later I squealed in pain as I was notified by Mr. Pink that I left my foot there too long and to stop touching him.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret the experience whatsoever and I kinda brought it upon myself. It left me with a badass pink dolphin bite scar.
C’est la vie!
And I’m passing on the GREEN TEAM baton to Juno of Runaway Juno. GO JUNO GOOOOOO!
TURTLE GREEN POWER!!!!!

I thought the pink dolphins are only in HK. Wonder how many people are bitten by dolphins!
Those are amazing stories… Good luck guys!
Ps. What a great and exciting contest idea.
So much fun! I want to play! Love your team name too 🙂
WOOP WOOP!
I know, right?! I just like pointing at my foot and saying, “See that? Yeah. Pink river dolphin in the Bolivian Amazon.” 😛
A few in our group… so more than people know?
Thank you!
Rease – If you want to hop onto Team Green, holler at me and I can see if I can track down who is next. 😀
You guys are crazy naked diving! I’d be anxious and excited all at once! Ha!
I was nervous about doing my open water in Utila because I was shy to get naked like you guys but UDC didn’t make us do it, Phew!
Cool top 3!
TEAM GREEN SUCK! BOO! GO TEAM BLUE!
Did that scare you all out of writing any more posts? No? Boo.
I’m loving the excited llama haha! Although I can’t imagine its breath being too minty fresh.
That llama shot is priceless! I was so excited when I got to Machu Picchu and realized there were llamas EVERYWHERE! Although they weren’t that friendly with me… 😉
We’re going to win. Just FYI. Boo us all you want.
Wasn’t it AWESOME?! I never dreamed there would be so many llamas!
To be fair, we were clothed and they were naked. 😛
