7 Super shots with @Hostelbookers

Hey guys!

If you haven’t seen the buzz going around the travel community, there is an awesome new photo round up posts and I am taking part in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots. Basically, you scour your photos for the best ones that you feel fit perfectly in the categories listed.

So I’m super proud of the following shots, and I’m nominating the following 5 bloggers to participate in the awesomeness:

SW GRAPHIC, Val Bromann, Runaway Juno, DigiDrift, Travel Reportage

Thank you Bethany from Beers and Beans for thinking of us with this picture round up!

To follow along with the round up, check out #7SuperShots on Twitter and see the official Hostelbookers rules here.

1. A Photo That Takes Our Breath Away

Montezuma, Costa Rica - HDR

We have been traveling in the rainy season for over 8 months (since we left Mexico). Sometimes it has been so incredibly frustrating due to the fact we are unable to do most of the must dos or must sees. We went hiking regardless of the fact it had rained 3 days straight in Montezuma, Costa Rica. When we made it to the top of this massive hill we found the most amazing viewpoint – just as the clouds cleared momentarily.

A few snaps later we were off and the rain came down on us again.

2. A Photo that Makes Us Laugh or Smile

Mancora_Carnaval-10

You will not believe the reaction you can get with younger people when you pull out your camera. This is from a set I’ve yet to post on Over Yonderlust (coming soon) from the Carnaval celebrations in Mancora, Peru. A few “FOTO! FOTO!” shouts and we were mobbed by kids and young adults trying to be part of history.

3. A Photo That Makes Us Dream

Lone flower

A lone flower in the Black Rock Desert, this caught my eye. During our first Burning Man, we just couldn’t believe we were finally here. Half fantasy, half reality, you had to constantly ask yourself if this was a dream.

4. A Photo That Makes Us Think

Still one of my most popular posts to date: Why Do You Do What You Do? (WDYDWYD?)

I like to participate in a portrait project that is conducted every year on the Burning Man playa asking fellow burners why they do what they do. Not only do you get some of the most personal answers, but it really makes you rethink what drives you in your life.

5. A Photo That Makes Our Mouth Water

SanMigueldeAllendeSights-18

The thing I miss the most about Mexico has to be the food, hands down. While strolling through a local market in San Miguel de Allende, we came across some glorious homemade churros. They just aren’t the same in Central and South America.

6. A Photo That Tells a Story

Vinales-19

A local tobacco farmer in Vinales, Cuba takes time out of his busy day to showcase his skill of handmade cigars. After the long fermentation process of rum, lime, and honey, the leaves are finally ready to be rolled into the final product. This was one of my favorite experiences on the trip.

7. A Photo That I’m Most Proud Of aka My Nat Geo Photo

I couldn’t really pick between the two so you get both!

Taken at the Jaguar Rescue Center in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, these animals are all around you.

  1. Some amazing photos… man I still remember the post “Why do you do what you do?” – that is a great photo. I love them all.

  2. I love Photo No. 2, and out of your 2 Nat Geo photos which I agree are hard to split, I go with the sloth, but probably because I have never seen one before and I see frogs all the time because I live in far north Queensland where we have heaps. They are all great pics. Congrats.

  3. Great shots. i particularly like the shot from Burning Man – that’s one festival that is totally on my to do list 🙂 I had a ticket one year even, but then ended up in Australia instead. If you do make it to Oz btw, let me know, there is an incredible festival out there I can recommend 😉

  4. Thaaanks for the mention! And thanks for giving me the hint on my next post:) Love all of the pics, especially the dreamlike Burning Man one, and even if I never tried churros, now I want a bunch. 🙂

  5. I immediately fell in love with photo #3 and read a bit more about the Burning Man since I never heard about it before (oups). Now THAT sounds like fun; hope I can go there too one day 🙂

  6. @Amanda: Thank you! I really thought that it would be an easy post until I realized how many pictures I had lol. The sloth one is one of my favorites. It is like he/she is smiling at the viewer!

  7. @Jaime: Thanks! I’m so sad that I’m not going to be able to participate this year for WDYDWYD due to not getting tickets to Burning Man. 🙁

  8. @Jan: Biased! 😛 I think I like the tree frog one just the same because I had never seen one before (just like the sloth!) and it was surreal to actually be in front of the animal.

  9. These are amazing photos, great job! I can only imagine how challenging it was to go through your stuff and only pick 8 of them to put up here. I know how many thousands of photos I’ve taken since we left home!

  10. Nice selection. I like the cigar roller and the sloth the best. Heading back to Costa Rica and Puerto Viejo early next year. 🙂

  11. @Bob: Thanks! It was so hard to choose, I’m glad people agree with the choices. Would love to head back but there is so much of the world to see!
