A Change in the Wind

changeWe have a quick announcement to all of my dear readers, friends, and family before we return to our regularly scheduled posts. Change is in the wind…

I do sincerely apologize in regards to the lack of posts this past week. There has been quite a bit going on in our lives and we wanted to make sure that we had everything pinned down before we shared the news. A big change in life is a big deal.

We have decided that it would be in our best interest to extend our leave another 3 months. While we would love to leave at a moment’s notice, we have been given an opportunity to pay off a school loan, our car, and fully reach our savings goal before leaving on our journey. This will basically extend our stay in Central/South America by about three months (if we have the time).

It is times like these when I really hate being an adult. Making “smart” or “responsible” decisions like this not only stresses me out, but takes a bit of fun out of this planning process.

On a positive note, we will be leaving on Over Yonderlust’s 1 year anniversary. What a way to kick it off!

Thank you guys for your love and support!

I will be continuing our road trip series in a few days; not to mention our lovely new addition to our blog that we will unveil soon as well.

HEARTS AND PUPPIES!

  1. @Keith: Thank you sooooo much. It means so much to me. We just sat down and listed out our pros and cons about waiting… and we went with the longer list of pros. Actually, leaving early only had one “pro” which was getting the hell out of here ASAP.

  2. Yes, being an adult can suck sometimes… You gotta do what you gotta do though. I think you made a wise decision, plus you get an extra 3 months… sweat!

Just think about the debt you won’t have to think about when your gone.

  3. It’s a good decision to make because in the long-run it will enhance your travels even more. It’s the smart thing to do!

  4. Sounds like a good tradeoff that will more than pay for itself in the long run. It’s hard to keep that extended perspective sometimes when something is so close and you want it so bad. Keep reading about other people doing what you want to in the meantime then rub there noses in it once you get on the road 🙂

    I’m only half kidding.

  5. I prefer the wording “disciplined life”, the idea of being an adult is unpleasant. 🙂 Holding strong for what you actually want is a good thing.

  6. Y’all are doing the right thing. Its going to be hard knowing you got 3 months more to go but in the end it will pay off so much more. Good luck on paying everything off and saving the money you need for the trip!!!

  7. @Nick: You would think by 28 I would not mind making decisions like this. I’m starting to think it doesn’t get easier! lol

  8. @Andrew: I like that! I think I’m going to use that in the future. I’m stubborn enough to know we’re going and I’m sure the payoff will be grand.

  9. @Jamie: We’re working hard! Now that we know we do have a bit more time, it does allow us to relax a little bit. We’ve been working so hard we haven’t had any time for fun.

  10. Has to be the right decision! Leaving with everything sorted will be really nice!

Looking forward to finding out what the new addition to the blog will be!!!

  11. @Poi: I think we’re trying to sort things now just in case we don’t come back lol. It is scary having so many options on what to do with your life!

  12. This is amazing news. Congratulations!! I was thinking about you guys the other day, wondering when you were going to take off. I’m so happy this all worked out!

  13. @Abby: Thanks Abby! We were planning on leaving in December, but we really have to take advantage of this opportunity. ♥ I’m still hoping you will drop by Austin some time. I owe you a few drinks at some place fabulous.

  14. Hey, if it helps pay off a loan and helps you fund additional travels — and only means your original departure is delayed slightly — good for you!! Guess it’s not always an easy call when you already had ideas in mind and were geared up for your trip to get started! But I bet every day you have extra on your trip, you’ll be thankful for the decision 🙂

  15. Do it! 3 months will fly by and after blowing the budget in Europe I can completely agree that you should stay and pay off as much as possible before you leave! Trust me, it will be worth it!

  16. This is definitely a solid decision. There’s a lot of information out there that almost ‘demands’ that we make instant decisions and avoid putting off our goals at all costs, however, this information never takes into consideration that each person’s circumstances are completely different. If you’ve decided that it is in your best interest to put off your departure for 3 months, then whatever your reasons, they are good enough!

And who wouldn’t want an extra three months in Central/South America???!!
