Spent a day trip going down to Tamarindo, Costa Rica this past week. Seems to be a beginning surfer haven. While it can be quite the tourist trap (you would not believe the demographic shift here), the waves are freaking awesome. I wish we had more time to get a little bit of surfing in but it took us 5 hours to even bus out there.
The girl in the color photo was carrying everything she owned in a small plastic bag. Only spent a few hours there (follow up post coming!) but it was like a paradise, flocks of old people and all.
Gorgeous – I love how they work together, with the surfer on one end walking towards the person on the beach.
So pretty. I tried surfing in Tamarindo, without much success. These photos make me want to go back and give it another go!
Whew! Glad to see (at least some of) the beach is still relatively pristine. I first visited Playa Tamarindo back in the early 90’s – walked the moonlit beach solo at nearby Playa Grande to witness the giant Leatherback sea turtles nest along the shore (awsome!), BEFORE there were any organized turtle tours. But… last I visited (reviewing hotels for a world-wide hotel directory) in 2005, alas it sadly had become oh so “touristy”.
So glad to hear you thought it was “paradise” – I’ll be interested to read your future post on it.
@Christy: Thanks! I was debating on whether or not to use both of them but I really liked how different they were side by side.
@Annette: We tried surfing in Sayulita. I failed miserably while Shaun rocked it. We’re thinking of going back and giving it another try though!
@Dyanne: Oh man, saying it is touristy is probably an understatement. It looks like surfers, hippies, and old people threw up on all the buildings. Very surreal because it has become like California in the middle of Central America. By paradise, I meant just the beach. I really didn’t like the city at all. 😛
Great shot with nice lighting.
So jealous that Tamarindo was nice and sunny for you! I was just there for two nights and there was torrential rain the whole time 🙁 Great pics!
@Emily: Yeah, we went right as rainy season was coming into full swing. Montezuma was completely rained out when we went.
