San Francisco Road Trip – Coming From Burning Man

Of course it is a cliche picture! You HAVE to enjoy campy things like this!

I can, without a shadow of a doubt, say that I left my heart in San Francisco. Our San Francisco road trip part of our trip really caught me off guard. What can I say? I fell in love.

People have often told me that San Francisco is essentially California’s version of Austin, Texas. While I was quite skeptical of this comparison, I have to say that this road trip made me realize that it was spot on. Besides the heinous traffic that can occur, we had a fantastic time. We not only got to hang out with an old WoW (yes we’re nerds) friend of ours but also got to see my most awesome aunt’s office on 5th and Market.

Knowing we didn’t have much time to really explore what this beautiful city had to offer, we made it a point to make it a culinary tour. While I would not ever classify us as foodies, per say, we definitely have higher expectations for food due to a type of food renaissance that is occurring in Austin today. Check out Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations episode on Austin, Texas.

We had to get something here that we couldn’t get in Austin – Japanese noodles, sushi (well, CHEAP, GOOD, sushi), and seafood that isn’t Gulf Shrimp.

From the time we woke up to the moment we went to bed, Shaun and I found ourselves in gluttonous nirvana. We were eating at an average of every 2-3 hours. Breakfast, lunch, post-lunch, pre-dinner, and dinner. We ate sushi three different times, ate noodles for dinner and leftovers for breakfast, and visited every restaurant that even remotely mentioned “chowder”. These places are fresh and I am so glad they could live up to our expectations. I was stoked to see many restaurants jumping on the self-sustainable bandwagon that everyone should be trying to hop on.

We are strongly considering trying to move here after we come back from South America – well, at least for a few months before we want to move on. What do you think of San Fran?

P.S. Next time I promise to take pictures of the food!

  1. I lived in LA for six years and never made it up to San Francisco. I’ve always wanted go there and Austin.

So many places to see… my list gets longer every day…

  2. Gorgeous photos! We have never been to San Francisco, but it is definitely getting higher on our list. Funny, we have a guest post about hiking in San Fran today on our blog. I will take that as a sign that we have to make our trip there sooner than later.

  3. @Abby: Awww shucks Abby! ♥ The thing about food pictures is that I’m usually too busy stuffing my face to think about “Hmmm this should be a photo moment.”
