After wandering the streets of Banos, Ecuador looking for a decent wifi connection, we finally bring you Episode 15 – one I’m so proud of and I’m stoked to show you. This one goes down in history as one of the most special nights on our travels and one I will hold dear to my heart forever. Troy of FOGG Odyssey and I collaborated on this one, each providing our own content to each other to cover all angles. I am looking forward to projects like this in the future and keep your eyes peeled on his blog for his [...]
For 2012, Shaun and I will be trying a different kind of writing for some posts… known as Erica and Shaun type like they would talk posts. So, for our first one, here we go. Feedback would be appreciated on if you would like to see this more in the future. Add “Riding a Chiva during the holidays in Medellin, Colombia” to the “Crazy Ass Shit I Did on My Travels” list. Good lord. Where do I even start? Lets start at the end and then do a flashback to the beginning so there is confusion and suspense! This isn’t [...]
Somehow when I think of Medellin, Colombia, I don’t think of bands playing old timey, ragtime music that I find myself attracted to when I’m in Austin, Texas. In discovering Medellin, I quickly learned that nothing is what it seems. One of our friends graciously invited us to see his band, the Medellin Dixie Band, perform. I really didn’t want to get my hopes up. I had seen his talent shine on the guitar before – but seriously, Dixie? In Medellin? COLOMBIA? My socks were officially blown off. In amazing renditions – my favorite being St. James’ Infirmary – were [...]
Because I feel the need to make one of those awesome cliche New Years posts, I bring you… THINGS YOU WANT TO READ ABOUT LAST YEAR BECAUSE WE’RE ENTERING A NEW ONE! So a few statistics: Currently in: Monanita, Ecuador April 12th, first flight beginning our big trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 9 countries visited 14 straight days on a bus 5 planes 21 passport stamps 15 lbs lost (from Erica) 13,000+ miles Casualties: 1 point and shoot camera, 1 daypack, 2 pairs of shorts, 3 shirts, 1 pair of flipflops, 1 Flip video camera, 1 tacklebox, 2 knives, 1 [...]
…..and we’re back! With our Go Pro in hand we have decided to finally conquer the world of video again. Watch us as we make fools of ourselves while dancing in front of the camera!

I come from a very generic American background. There really isn’t any single country that I can claim as my heritage as my distant relatives mixed with other nationalities as often as they could. Well, every European, caucasian nation, that is. Likely because of this, I don’t have a dancing or even generic rhythm gene in my body. So in a desperate attempt to improve my dance skills, we headed to the Salsa capital of the world: Cali, Colombia. While in Cali, we discovered 6 different types of dances. Basic Salsa Dancing: Generally done by infants and foreigners. Private Salsa [...]
Supposedly Medellin, Colombia is listed as one of the five places in the world that you must see Christmas lights. Their display not only costs quite a hefty chunk of change but creates jobs AND they sell the lights to other countries to supplement their yearly changing display. I have never seen such an ambitious set of lights in my life. It makes the Trail of Lights in Austin (that has been cancelled for years now) look like a joke! Families are out until the lights close at 1am and street food vendors line up with goodies like sour mango [...]
I know I rarely discuss the downsides of travel but there is one thing that has been driving me bat shit crazy over the past 8 months on the road. There is NO GOOD BEER ON TAP. None. Yes, I’m a beer snob. What do you expect from a girl that lives in a microbrewery haven? I get spoiled with my $2 pints of good beer. Sure, you do stumble across a few good bottled ones (i.e. Salvavida in Honduras) but it just isn’t the same. Where are my pints?! Like a beacon of light on a stormy night, there [...]
I am a museum person. I know some of you are surprised that a person of my tattooed, awesome, party-going, rock n’ roll luke-warm tepid lifestyle likes to spend hours of their Sunday afternoons in educational institutions. But I do. Somehow I had been skeptical of the gold museum. There are plenty of them throughout South America and I was just kind of meh about the whole ordeal. After being told twice about the amazingness of it, we thought we would give it a chance. WOW. Is all I could say. They really didn’t skimp out on anything and put [...]
